Pirates of the Caribbean Actor Tamayo Perry Dies After Shark Attack

Tamayo Perry, a 49-year-old actor and professional surfer, has died after being attacked by a shark while surfing at Malaekahana Beach in Hawaii on Sunday afternoon.
Perry, who was also a lifeguard, was pronounced dead by paramedics after being brought to shore by jet ski. The incident occurred around 1:00 pm local time, and emergency services were quickly called to the scene.
As tributes pour in from fans and colleagues alike, it’s clear that Perry was a beloved figure both on and off screen.
Born and raised on the east side of Oahu, Perry had been surfing professionally for over a decade and had become well-known on the north shore and around the world for his infectious personality and exceptional skills.

In addition to his impressive film credits, which include roles in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Lost, Hawaii Five-0, Blue Crush, and Charlie’s Angels sequel Full Throttle, Perry also appeared in a Coca-Cola commercial.
His passion for surfing was evident in his work as an instructor at the Oahu Surfing Experience, where he wrote about his experiences surfing “the world’s deadliest wave” and described himself as capable of holding his own against the world’s best surfers.

Acting Honolulu Ocean Safety chief Kurt Lager remembered Perry as “a lifeguard loved by all,” noting that he was well-known not only on Oahu’s north shore but also around the world. “Tamayo’s personality was infectious, and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more,” Lager said.
Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi echoed Lager’s sentiments, calling Perry’s death “a tragic loss” and expressing condolences to his family. “Tamayo was a legendary waterman and highly respected… just a great member of our ocean safety team,” he said.
As news of Perry’s passing spreads, fans and friends are taking to social media to pay their respects to the talented actor and surfer. While it’s difficult to comprehend the loss of such a vibrant and talented individual, those who knew Perry are left with fond memories of his infectious enthusiasm and love for the ocean.
Perry’s death serves as a poignant reminder of the risks that come with pursuing one’s passions. Despite his extensive experience in the water, Perry’s attack was a brutal reminder that even the most seasoned professionals are not immune to the dangers that lurk beneath the surface.
