Asente Berko resigns over bribery allegations

President Nana Addo accepts Asante Berko’s resignation over bribery allegation. A letter dated 15th April 2020 signed by the Director of Communication indicated that the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, has on Wednesday 15th April 2020 received the resignation from the office of Mr. Asante Berko as Managing Director of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).
Plagued by a bribery scandal, the Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery, Asante Berko, has resigned.
The Presidency released a statement announcing the 46-year old had tendered in his resignation.
Asante Berko’s resignation comes after he was accused of sharing bribes of about $2.5million between 2015 and 2016 to have approved, a contract to purchase a power plant during Ghana’s energy crisis.
It remains to be seen whether investigative agencies such as the Special Prosecutor, the Police CID or Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) would take up the Ghana leg of the matter.
