Akufo-Addo does ‘YAWA’ as a viral video of him taking cash in public surfaces, sparking reactions from Ghanaians. While some have expressed their disgust at how the President received and pocketed the money, others are of the view that there was nothing wrong with it.
Another cross-section of the public has concluded that the President was taking a bribe; however, this portal cannot independently confirm the views expressed by the public on the video that has gone viral since it surfaced on the internet.
In the viral video, one can see President Akufo-Addo captured as he received and sandwiched the money, which appeared to be a bundle of 200 GHS notes. The amount is estimated to be about GHS 20,000.
At the time the incident occurred, the President was standing between the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, and the Minister of Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye.
The video, which lasted just eleven seconds, was posted on X by EDHUB. In it, President Akufo-Addo is seen receiving a large sum of cash, visibly 200 cedi notes, from an unidentified man in public.
The unidentified man took the money out of his purse and handed it over to President Akufo-Addo, who hurriedly pushed the money into his left-hand pocket while still standing. He then attempted to straighten his blue-and-white vertically striped long sleeves.

- What is the GHS 20,000 for, and what work has President Nana Addo done for this man to receive such cash?
- Is this a bribe in broad daylight or a gesture of kindness?
- Should President Akufo-Addo receive money in public the way he did?
- What impression does this video create for the President, who is leaving office soon?
