Akufo Addo Extends the Contract Of Auditor General for Two Years
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended the contract of Auditor-General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu for an additional two years. Asiedu was due to retire on August 1, 2024, but the extension means he will continue to serve in his role until August 1, 2026.
The news was announced in a notice dated June 19 from the Audit Service, which congratulated Asiedu on the extension. The notice read: “I wish to bring to the information of all staff that His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, has extended the tenure of the office of the Auditor General, Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu for the next two years.”
Asiedu has been a loyal in the auditing community, with a rich experience spanning over three decades.
What to know about the Auditor-General, Mr. Asiedu.
Before his appointment as Auditor-General, he had served in various roles within the Audit Service, including Deputy Auditor-General (DAG) and Acting Auditor-General.
Asiedu has undertaken numerous special assignments, including audits of international organizations such as the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), Austria; International Maritime Organization (IMO), UK; and International Organisation for Migration (IOM). He has also audited various government institutions and projects in Ghana, including the Scholarship Secretariat and DANIDA-funded projects of the Parliament of Ghana.

A highly respected professional, Asiedu is a resource person for AFROSAI-E and INTOSAI International Development Initiative. He has facilitated workshops in Ghana, The Gambia, South Africa, and Tanzania and is a trainer in leadership and change management.
Asiedu holds a Chartered Accountant qualification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana) and is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors. He holds an MBA in Strategic Management from the Paris Graduate School of Management and BSc. Administration (Accounting) from the University of Ghana, Legon.
In his free time, Asiedu enjoys football, reading, and preaching the Gospel. His extension is seen as a major boost for the Audit Service, which will benefit from his wealth of experience and expertise.
The Audit Service has extended its congratulations to Asiedu on his extension, saying: “Thank you” for his dedication and service to the institution. With Asiedu at the helm for another two years, stakeholders can expect continued strong leadership and oversight in Ghana’s public sector.
