AFCON 2019 Draw held
The AFCON 2019 draw has finally been held in Morocco and now everything that is competing in the biggest football event in Africa knows which teams it is going to face in the group stages.
Pundits of the Africa game hold the view that the big teams have been offered an easy way out of the group stages. This tournament will be the first to have 24 teams competing. This means more matches at the AFCON 2019 which kicks off on June 21 will end in July 2019.
Neil Mortagbe Armstrong of Hearts of Oak fame holds the view that the decision of CAF to expand the Africa Cup of Nations tournament to give more countries the chance to participate will also bring in more sponsorship
In group A, the host nation Egypt will battle it out with the likes of Dr Congo, Uganda and Zimbabwe. This means that Egypt will Zimbabwe the in the opening game at 2019 AFCON.
Nigeria, Guinea, Madagascar and Burundi will fight for the top spot and it looks like Nigeria may have an easy way out of this group.
GROUP C has the likes of Senegal, Algeria, Kenya and Tanzania who must all justify themselves enough through their games to earn a spot in the second round of matches after the group stages
In GROUP D Morocco will come face to face with Cote D’Ivoire, South Africa, and Namibia. This group has already been tagged as the group of death at the tournament.
The other two groups are GROUP E made up of Tunisia, Mali, Mauritania and Angola while the GROUP F has Cameroon the defending champions, Ghana which has struggled to win the tournament in over 30 years, Benin and Guinea Bissau to square it up for supremacy.
Africa’s big teams are all represented from every part of the continent and we expect nothing but good football I June. A country like Ghana will attempt to win this trophy which has eluded them for over 30 years. However, all the other teams will have their own ideas about that. Africa is ready, let the African Cup of nations begin…
