KATH Management Body Defends its CEO Over Accusations
The management of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has vehemently defended its CEO, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, against accusations of financial impropriety and procurement violations levelled by former hospital attorney, Kwame Adofo.
According to Adofo, who served as KATH’s legal counsel until December 31, 2023, Prof. Addai-Mensah has mismanaged funds and flouted procurement regulations since assuming office in December 2022.
However, the hospital’s management has dismissed the allegations as groundless and fraught with inaccuracies.
In a statement, the hospital highlighted Prof. Addai-Mensah’s significant accomplishments in elevating clinical care standards, modernizing infrastructure, and enhancing employee welfare.
These achievements have been widely praised by hospital stakeholders, including patients, staff members, and the broader community.
The hospital’s management has also highlighted that Prof. Addai-Mensah has been fair in how he goes about things, and that all financial transactions are thoroughly audited and reported to the relevant authorities.
“We are committed to ensuring that our financial dealings are above board and in line with established regulations,” said the hospital’s management.
“We will not tolerate any attempts to undermine our integrity or that of our CEO.”
In response to a petition advocating for his dismissal, labour unions at KATH have rallied behind the CEO, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah.
Healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and union members, have vehemently contested the allegations as stated in the petition.
“We recognize the allegations against the CEO do not define his character and dedication to the well-being and development of the hospital,” said the labour unions in a statement.
“We stand in solidarity with the CEO and management of the hospital to continue their good works at KATH.”

The union’s statement testifies Prof. Addai-Mensah’s commitment and leadership style.
The KATH’s management has also reiterated their confidence in the CEO’s ability to lead the institution to greater heights.
As the controversy surrounding Prof. Addai-Mensah’s leadership continues to unfold, it is clear that the hospital’s staff and stakeholders are united in their support for the CEO.
The allegations against him are being seen as an attempt to undermine his efforts to transform KATH into a world-class medical institution.
In light of these developments, it is essential for all parties involved to remain calm and focused on the interests of the hospital and its patients.
The KATH’s management and labour unions must continue to work together to build a strong foundation for future growth and success.
Only time will tell how this situation will unfold, but one thing is certain – the commitment of KATH’s management to excellence in healthcare delivery still remains.
