A special data package has been set in place for all tertiary students who are Internet users
A new initiative has been set in place for the benefit of all Ghanaian tertiary students internet users in terms of special bundle offers on five national holidays in Ghana. These initiatives were set in place by The Minister of Communications and Digital Technology, Mr. Sam Nartey George.
He spoke that the effort invested in this was specially designed to offer Ghanaian Internet users special data bundle packages. These offers will be available on five holidays which will be on independence day, may day, farmers day, founders day and republic day.
“In the imterim, I have agreed with all the three network operators to have special data offers for all subscribers on these holidays “said Mr. Sam. The initiatives follows the work of a Data Cost Pricing Committee, which the Minister constituted in February. This committee includes representatives from telecommunication services providers, consumer groups and regulatory bodies. The group was tasked with producing a road map to achieve more affordable data pricing within just 14 days.
After 13 days the report was delivered by the committee. “I am grateful to stakeholders worked deligently and at no cost to the state to produce a short, medium and long term approach to data prices rationalisation in the country. Again I say ayekoo to to them for their selfless to our country. ” said Mr. George. He continued by saying he had reviewed the committee’s proposal and forwarded it to the National Communication Authority which is now working closely with mobile network operators to refine the implementation framework.
He disclosed that the telecom companies have already committed to improved data packages targeted at the tertiary students,content creator and the gig economic sector. All three network operators have presented the Ministry and regulator with specific improved data bundles for all tertiary students across the country as well as content creators and gig economy demographic. One of the coming days, the NCA will finalise the implementation and technical requirements with relevant stakeholders for the public rollout said by the Minister.
This special package are expected to take place in the near future including technical validation by the NCA.
