A Nigerian boxer dies after a fight in Ghana at Bukom Boxing Arena

A 40-years-old veteran of sport, Olanrewaju Sega known as success died in an undercard bout of Ghana’s Professional Boxing League’s Fight Night 15 on Saturday, 29th March, 2025.
He engaged in the fight with a Ghanaian boxer known as Jon Mbanugu. Jon is known to be nicknamed “Power”. He is a native of Accra who is an upcoming rising star in Ghanaian boxing scenes.
During the period, it was obvious that Sucess was leading in points in a competitive but friendly exchanges with Power. After several exchanges of punches, it was observed that Success suddenly fell down.
Initially the referee and time keeper counted thinking it was a knockdown. With several counts it was noticed that Sucess was not rising. The referee and others rushed quickly to assist because they suspected something was not right. They later found out that he was unconscious. Immediately medical assistance was called. After proper scrutinization it was found out to be too late to save him.
Despite the attempt to save Success, it was brought to day light that he had pass away. Suggestion from standbys shows that Success suffered cardiac arrest at that spot which had lead to his dead. Friends and family were grieved to hear tragic this news.
According to Boxing records, he was born in Lagos and had an extensive boxing career competing in twenty-three professional fight, securing thirteen blessed wins and with twelve knockout.He had suffered eight defeats and recorded two draws in his career.
The Ghana Boxing Authorities are anticipated to bring out an official statement on the tragic death of the Nigerian boxer who fought with the Ghanaian boxer in the Bukom Boxing Arena.
