Mahama Bans Lavish Birthday Parties as Ntim Fordjour Slams NDC Appointees

President John Dramani Mahama has prohibited extravagant birthday celebrations among his appointees, according to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who made the disclosure on TV3’s Key Points show on Saturday, May 10, 2025. The move is part of efforts by the Mahama administration to promote moderation and discipline within government.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Assin South, John Ntim Fordjour, has sharply criticised the conduct of some government appointees, accusing them of unexplained affluence and lavish spending just 120 days into the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s return to power.

In a strongly worded social media post, Fordjour alleged that certain individuals, whom he claims have never had formal employment are already flaunting expensive gadgets and luxury cars, including a $450,000 Range Rover Autobiography.

He argued that the funds used for such items could be better invested in essential infrastructure, such as classroom blocks, in underprivileged communities.

Fordjour also expressed dissatisfaction with what he called a “toothless” Code of Conduct, claiming it fails to effectively hold officials accountable for their financial behaviour.

He further mocked supporters of the NDC for enduring economic hardship while defending the same officials on social media.

“You worked, they’re chopping!” Fordjour stated, as he called on Ghanaians to hold public officials accountable and demand transparency.

President Mahama’s directive against extravagant celebrations may be seen as a step toward restricting such excesses, though opposition figures like Fordjour insist that more concrete actions are needed to curb abuse of office and public trust.
