The traders, who have been struggling with inadequate capital to support their businesses, were happy to receive the grant from their Member of Parliament.
The Egyapa Care Foundation was established in 2020 to provide support to various groups in the constituency.
The organization has been distributing essential tools and equipment to traders and artisans, including sewing machines, hair dryers, carpentry tools, and mason tools. The latest grant is a significant milestone in the foundation’s efforts to empower traders in Sekondi.
In an interview with Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, the host of Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show, Andrew Egyapa Mercer emphasized that the foundation has been working to support traders and other groups in his constituency.
“The Egyapa Care Foundation started in 2020.
We have realized that every year, various organizations including hairdressers, trade associations, seamstresses, masons, carpenters, welders, and many others come to me for various forms of support, and it keeps increasing.
So, we put together the Egyapa Care as a vehicle to solicit support just so that we can assist those who come to us in this regard.”
The MP also said that the grant was given out without any political party affiliation.
“We did it without any political party affiliation, any trader who needed the support was given.
Many still need financial support for their businesses, we shall go back to those who supported us and find out if they can make some more money available and we shall give it to them so that everyone will be satisfied.
I will urge all of them to make good use of the support given to them, it may be small but can do many profitable if it is used well.”
The Queen Mother of the Sekondi Market, Nana Krah, who organized the traders, thanked the MP for being sensitive to the plight of women in the constituency.
The cash grants are expected to have a significant impact on the lives of the traders and their families.
Overall, the Egyapa Care Foundation’s efforts to support traders in Sekondi are a testament to the MP’s commitment to empowering his constituents and promoting economic growth in the region.
