Enough Of Lip- Service On Galamsey – Dr. Lawrence Tetteh Laments
As the country tussles with the devastating effects of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, an international evangelist has called for immediate action to put an end to the destructive activities.
Rev. Dr Lawrence Tetteh, President of the Worldwide Miracle Outreach (WMO), lamented the shame that the nation has been subjected to due to the inaction of duty-bearers in the face of this environmental and social crisis.
Rev. Dr Tetteh, who is also an economist, emphasized that the situation where the ruling political class, chiefs, and security agencies have turned a blind eye to galamsey is unacceptable and condemnable.
He stressed that it is a shame that the nation continues to pay lip service to an issue that is destroying current and future generations mainly galamsey.

The evangelist urged all Ghanaians, regardless of their social status, to rise up and help expose those perpetuating galamsey.
He called on the presidency, chiefs, and security personnel to take a stand against this menace.
According to him, if chiefs exercise their power over their subjects in the fight against galamsey, those behind the menace could be brought to book with ease.
”Children are being born with defects; it is estimated that Ghana risks importing water because our water-bodies are contaminated, causing infections and diseases to our communities. This is why we must expose the people behind this wickedness,” he said.
Rev. Dr Tetteh also emphasized the need for conscious efforts to purge the country of corruption, favouritism, and nepotism, which he believes are deeply rooted in galamsey and other developmental challenges.
He called on mandated state anti-graft institutions to live up to their constitutional mandate and help nip corruption in the bud.
“Our security services and politicians must sit up to help curb and stop this ‘nonsense’,” he stressed, adding that if corruption and nepotism were allowed to persist, “we will be digging our graves.”
The 31-day national prayer rally by WMO and the Lawrence Tetteh Ministries (LTM) is aimed at praying for the wellbeing of the country, especially as the December 7 elections approach.
The theme of the rally is “This Nonsense Must Stop,” which emphasizes the need for collective action to address galamsey and other developmental challenges.
The government has been implementing measures to clamp down on galamsey, including security deployments and revised mining regulations. However, despite these efforts, illegal mining activities continue across the country.
It is imperative that all Ghanaians come together to put an end to this destructive practice and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
