2020: Haruna Iddrisu Brakes the pot, hints Mahama’s running mate
Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu has dropped a hint of when President John Dramani Mahama is expected to officially name and outdoor his running mate ahead of the 2020 polls.
Speaking on Accra-based Joy Fm monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the Tamale South Lawmaker said the torch bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not disappoint in naming someone who will be acceptable to the generality of the party.
“The President is consulting with the structures of the party. It certainly will come before the end of year and then we could start”, he hinted.
He observed that the NDC has set the tone after conducting a successful parliamentary primary throughout constituencies in the country fully arming itself to face off with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“I think we have set the tone with the conduct of a successful parliamentary primaries to determine many of our candidates. As the Minority Leader, I look forward to President Mahama governing with a majority in parliament”, he said.
Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Mr. Alex Mould had earlier said anybody who is going to assist John Mahama and the NDC needs to have strong leadership qualities, needs to have a strong grasp of the economy.
A deep-throat in the NDC told MyNewsGh.com some names that have tentatively come up for consideration for running mate include, in no particular order, Marietta Appiah-Opong Brew, a former Attorney-General, Kwesi Ahwoi, Ghana’s former Agric Minister and High Commissioner to South Africa, Dr Johnson Asiama, a former Bank of Ghana Deputy Governor; Mr. Julius Debrah, a former Minister and the immediate-past Chief of Staff and Hannah S. Tetteh, a former Foreign Minister now U.N top Diplomat, Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast and Education Minister under the John Mahama administration.
Others include Dr Kwesi Botchwey who was Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission under Mahama and Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, MP and daughter of the Rawlingses.
