Who will reject such offer? – Gyan ready to be Bawumia’s running mate
Asamoah Gyan, the former captain of Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, has openly expressed his willingness to accept an offer to become Bawumia’s running mate should such an opportunity arise.
During an exclusive interview on Onua TV’s Onua Maakye with host Captain Smart, Gyan responded to rumors suggesting that he might be considered for this prominent political role.
When asked about the possibility of joining Dr. Bawumia on the ticket for the upcoming elections, Gyan, with a blend of amusement and seriousness, admitted that he finds the idea an honor too significant to reject.
“Honour is something everybody likes,” he remarked, laughing off the gravity of the suggestion but acknowledging the prestige it would bring. “I won’t reject it but I know that’s big,” he added, indicating his awareness of the enormity of such a responsibility.

Although quick to note that these talks are currently just rumors, Gyan didn’t shy away from discussing his readiness to serve his country in new capacities.
Beyond the pitch, he has been actively involved in sports development, serving as the chairman of the Sports Sub-Committee of Dr. Bawumia’s manifesto committee.
His role involves shaping the sports policies for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as they prepare for the December 7 elections.
Moreover, Gyan has been instrumental in launching the All Regional Games, a new multi-sport competition designed to discover and nurture sporting talents across Ghana.
This initiative aligns with his commitment to contribute to the sporting landscape of his home country, reinforcing his dedication to public service, whether in athletics or potentially in politics.
As Gyan prepares for a regional tour starting April 16 to promote the games and scout for talent, his potential future in politics remains a topic of interest and speculation.
Whether or not he steps into the political arena, his impact on Ghana’s sports and youth development is undeniable and continues to grow.
