We celebrated your victory in the pubs and night clubs – Ghanaian react to Nana Addo’s call
A cross-section of Ghanaians are asking if the president of the republic is aware of where they celebrate his victory when the EC announced his victory in the 2020 elections. This comes as President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo insists that beaches, pubs, and night clubs remain in the Christmas season.
In the 20th televised address to the Nation on COVID-19, the government indicated that pubs, nightclubs, and beaches will remain closed to the general public.
In the wake of the election campaigns, political parties broke the covid-19 protocols because it favoured their political ambitions and saw nothing wrong with it. Barely two weeks after the election, Ghanaians are finding it difficult to comprehend why the directive has not been modified in any way.
“Beaches, pubs, nightclubs remain closed. All institutions cleared to function must do so with strict adherence to the covid-19 safety protocols…” Akufo-Addo said.

He also called on families and religious bodies to ensure the safety protocols are adhered to.
“With barely a week to the Christmas festivities which will bring in its wake family reunions, parties, and many social gatherings, I urge all of you to err on the side of caution and observe the covid-19 safety protocols no matter where you find yourself. Organizers of such events should make available veronica buckets and must insist that patrons use them as frequently as possible…”, the President indicated in the 20th address to the nation.
Social media has reacted to his calls. Some of the comments captured are
“Ah Fellow Ghanaians did Nana Addo say make we close club? Nana forget wai, make we enjoy Christmas small na election kuraa ya y3 na Xmas”
“Nana Addo says pubs and nightclubs are still closed? Eii na where does he think we celebrated his victory”
“Nana Addo dey different Ghana Man Said dem close pubs and clubs lamoaa”
Has the laws enacted to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 been applied to the letter? Will Ghanaians take the directive in its fullness and adhere to it?
The reality is that pubs, nightclubs, drinking spots have been buzzing and active. What risk do we face as the festive season draws nearer and will pubs and night clubs keep their doors close in their most profitable season?
