We are not recruiting party people into security agencies – Interior Minister
In a recent radio interview on Accra-based Citi FM, the Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, has angrily denied allegations made by the Minority in Parliament that the security and intelligence agencies are currently recruiting New Patriotic Party (NPP) members into the security services.
According to the Minority, the government has given 20 slots to Members of Parliament from the NPP side to get people into the various security services and intelligence agencies.
However, the Interior Minister described these allegations as “a palpable lie” and an “incitement” of the public against the government.
Mr. Quartey explained that the security and intelligence agencies are actually planning to recruit individuals who had previously applied for jobs in the security services but were not selected.
He emphasized that these individuals are still desirous of being recruited and would be given an opportunity to do so.
The Interior Minister also urged the Minority to stop spreading false information to the public, describing their allegations as an attempt to create confusion and mistrust.

He rather commended the government for adopting an innovative strategy to give qualified Ghanaian nationals who had previously applied to the security agencies another chance to realize their goals.
In his words, “It would have been inconsiderate on the part of the government to still advertise and sell recruitment forms to people, knowing that there was limited space.” He added that the Ministry would soon issue a statement on the recruitment process.
The Interior Minister’s statement is a clear indication that the allegations made by the Minority are unfounded and aimed at tarnishing the image of the government. It is essential for all parties involved in national politics to ensure that information is accurate and not misused for political gain.
It remains to be seen how this controversy will unfold, but one thing is clear – the Interior Minister has categorically denied any involvement in recruiting NPP members into the security services.
Background
This controversy is not new, with allegations of partisan recruitment in the security services being a long-standing issue in Ghana’s political landscape. In recent years, there have been several instances where opposition parties have accused the ruling party of engaging in such practices.
The latest allegations by the Minority in Parliament are a continuation of this trend, with some accusing them of attempting to distract attention from more pressing issues affecting the country.
Reactions
The Minority’s leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has responded to Mr. Quartey’s statement, saying that they will not be swayed by his denial. “We will continue to expose these corrupt practices and ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” he said.
The Minority’s spokesperson, James Agalga, also weighed in on the controversy, saying that Mr. Quartey’s statement was an attempt to cover up their nefarious activities.
Conclusion
The controversy surrounding alleged NPP recruitment into the security services is a complex issue that requires careful consideration. While Mr. Quartey’s denial has shed some light on the matter, it remains unclear whether any actual recruitment is taking place.
