WAEC examination leakages are set to be reduced with the introduction of mobile phone jamming technology at examination centres.
Information reaching this portal shows that WAEC will roll out this technology to curb examination leakages in the 2021 WASSCE.
WAEC intends to introduce the mobile phone jamming technology at all examination centres in an effort to minimize and prevent cases of illegal access to examination questions which bread malpractices during the examination. WAEC examination leakages remain a major challenge confronting the annual conduct of examinations in the country.
This technology can interrupt the connection between the telephone and the cellular base station, potentially blocking mobile phones in the jammer, keep them from transmitting signals, and so on.
The President of Ghana confirmed this during the Nation Address (SONA) on Tuesday, March 9, 2021. In his address, he revealed that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in partnership with the government will introduce alternative ways to control and make leakages and malpractices less prevalent.
“The Government of Ghana (GoG) through the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) will this year introduce new measures to curb examination leakages and malpractice,” President Akuffo Addo said. This is aimed at improving the quality of education and making Ghanaian students globally competitive and saving the integrity of the annual WASSCE exam.
