Truck driver arrested for allegedly causing train accident on railway

The driver of a Hyundai truck bearing the license plate GS 9018-20 has been arrested by Ghana Police for causing train Accident during Test run.
This action comes after suspicions arose that the driver was responsible for causing an accident with a Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line on Thursday, April 18.
The Ghana Police Service reports that the driver of the Hyundai truck was detained due to a preliminary investigation indicating that he was not attentive while on the railroad tracks, leading to a collision with the train.
A previous statement by the Railways Ministry confirmed that the accident occurred at approximately 12:10 p.m. on Thursday, April 18.
The location of the incident was specifically noted as being at km 76+100 on the railway track.
It was here that the DMU train encountered the stationary Hyundai truck parked directly across the tracks.

Despite the train driver’s immediate application of the emergency brakes, the train was unable to halt in time and collided with the truck.
The Railways Ministry emphasized that the train hit the stationary truck at the specified location, km 76+100, where the DMU was approaching a curve.

The emergency braking system was activated quickly by the train’s driver, but stopping the train completely was not possible.
Consequently, the train made contact with the truck, resulting in the accident.
Fortunately, according to the Railways Ministry, there were no injuries among the spectators or the passengers on the train.
However, the collision did cause some minor damage to the train’s driver’s cabin. This incident underscores the importance of maintaining vigilance near railroad tracks to avoid such occurrences in the future.
