The burial of the late Joana Deladem Yabani
The late Joana Deladem Yabani whom has been allegedly killed by her boyfriend, Daniel and was a student perusing Biological Science in Kwame Nkrumah University of Ghana(KNUST) would be buried on 5th April, 2025.
The funeral took place at the Jehovah Shammah Assemblies of God Church in Ashongman Estate Accra. Family, friends and sympathisers had gathered at the venue to bid her farewell to the spirit World. The solemn atmosphere was thick with sorrow as family, friends, schoolmates, church members, and dignitaries flooded the church premises for the final funeral rites.
Emotions ran high as tributes poured in for the young woman whose life was tragically cut short. Students from KNUST and Achimota Old Students Association body presented their selfs as representatives to comfort the bereaved family as well as to pay their respects.
In attendance were leaders from various Assemblies of God branches, a host of clergy, and security officials, including the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Teye Cudjoe.In her honour, the JDAY Foundation was launched during the service, aiming to raise awareness and fight against gender-based violence and tragic relationship-related crimes.
The foundation seeks to ensure that Joana’s story sparks lasting change and safeguards others from similar fates.Joana, a promising student, was found dead near the university’s Rehabilitation and Disability Centre on February 27, 2025. Her boyfriend, Daniel Tuffour, is standing trial in connection with her death, which remains surrounded by unanswered questions. Joana is survived by her parents, Dr. John B.K. Yabani and Mrs. Rejoice Amakie Yabani, and eight siblings.
A thanksgiving service is scheduled for April 13 at the same church to celebrate her life and legacy.
