Poor governance from eight years cannot be completed in four months – Sam George

Ghana’s Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, delivered a National address on June 10, 2025, with respect to the recent increase in data prices within the telecommunications sector. Many Ghanaians have spoke out about concerns over the rapid rise in data costs, calling for a proactive strategy to balance and develop the industry.
The briefing intended to explain the government’s position and plans moving forward in managing data pricing. In the course of the briefing, Hon. Samuel Nartey George drew to attention that AirtelTigo, Telecel, and MTN will increase their data bundles by 10% to 15% effective Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
Hon. George stated that “We want the industry to be competitive but it must be healthy,”, justifying the prices increase. He drew to attention that the move is part of comprehensive initiative aimed at restructuring the sector and ensure long-lasting economic prosperity. The minister identified the problems faced by the industry all because of the prior to administrative error.
He drew to attention that the current situation won’t be fixed right away, particularly considering the eight years of mismanagement prior to the previous administration. Samuel Nartey George explained that “The recovery from eight years of mismanagement cannot be completed in four months,”suggesting that changes will take time and understanding from everyone involved.
Summarizing his thoughts, Samuel Nartey George gave Ghanaians assurance of his dedication to serving the nation. He expressed his commitment to fixing the issues carried over from the previous administration by saying “My heart is with the people of Ghana. I will serve you with heart, sweat, and blood, and we will fix the mess I have inherited in this ministry.”
