Over 100 UG students and staff face disciplinary action

The University of Ghana has taken strong disciplinary action against more than 100 students and staff for misconduct, including exam cheating and disorderly behaviour.
In a press release dated June 16, 2025, the University’s Registrar, Emelia Agyei-Mensah, explained that the Academic Board had decided that the names of students and staff punished for misconduct should be made public. The release listed several offences and the penalties given. These included suspensions, expulsions, and grade penalties such as Grade Z and X, especially for those caught with unauthorized electronic devices like mobile phones and smartwatches during exams.
According to the statement, 14 students have been suspended for two academic years for acting in ways that violated the university’s rules and for ignoring orders from university authorities. These students will not be allowed to take part in any academic or extracurricular activities during their suspension.
In addition, 97 students were found guilty of exam malpractice and have also been punished. Their cases were heard formally, and the university confirmed they had broken examination rules.
The university also gave formal warnings to two more students for inappropriate conduct, though they were not suspended.
In total, 115 students and staff have been affected by the recent disciplinary measures.
The University of Ghana emphasized its ongoing commitment to maintaining discipline and upholding academic standards. It stated: “The university remains resolute in ensuring a safe and honourable learning environment for all students.”
This latest move highlights the university’s firm stance on misconduct and serves as a reminder to all students and staff to follow the rules and maintain integrity, especially during examinations.
