driver remanded over robbery
A commercial motor (Okada) rider and a driver are in police custody after a court in Accra said they robbed someone.
Eliawu Dawud, also known as “Tension,” and Alobase Atogsige, also known as “Otoo,” both 32, have denied working together to steal GHC383,500.00 from Habibu Munkaila.
They were told to come back to court on November 24, 2022, by Mrs. Evelyn Asamoah, who was in charge of the court.
Alidu Hamidu, a businessman who lived in Mamprobi, was the person who filed the complaint, said Police Chief Inspector Samuel Ahiabor. Dawud lived in Nima 441, and Atogsige, a driver, lived in Pokuase.
He said that on October 25, 2022, around 1400 hours, the complainant sent the victim, Munkaila, on a motorcycle with the registration number M-22-CE 5477 to deliver GHC383,500.00 to a customer in Achimota.
The prosecution said that the victim got on his motorcycle with the money and saw that two young men on an unregistered Honda Hornet were following him closely on the Kanda Highway.
The court heard that the victim then crossed the center line and turned around so he was facing oncoming traffic. He did this to stop the suspects from chasing him, but it didn’t work.
It was said that the accused people chased after the victim and pulled him off his motorcycle near the NDC Party office.
The prosecution said that the accused people started shooting at random and took the victim’s backpack with the money out of it.
It said that investigations showed that the accused people had changed the paint job on the bike after using it to rob someone.
The prosecution says that after the accused people sprayed the bike, they gave it to Alihu Zakaria to sell.
It said that on October 27, 2022, the victim led the police to the place where he saw the Honda Hornet motorcycle that the suspects used to commit the crime.
The prosecution said that both the bike and the person who sold it were taken to the police station.
It said that two days later, the accused sent a witness in the case, Alhassan Yahaya, a document for the bike so that it could be sold. Yahaya was then arrested.
Yahaya also told the police where Dawud was hiding so they could catch him there.
The prosecution said that during the investigation, Dawud admitted that Atogsige asked for his motorcycle on October 24, 2022, at 9:00 a.m., so that he could steal it.
Dawud said that Atogsige returned the motorbike to him on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, with GHC6,500.00 and a pack of fried rice with chicken. The robbery happened on October 25, 2022, at about 14:30.
The government said that Dawud led the police to Atogsige’s hiding place in Nima, where he was hiding out.
It said that investigations showed that both of the accused planned and took part in robbing the victim at 14:30 on October 25, 2022.
