NSS personnel to be ‘certified teachers’ after end of service – NSS
2023/2024 national service personnel who will be posted to various educational institutions will undergo a one-month training after their end of service for them to become certified teachers, the Executive Director of National Service Scheme, Osei Assibey Antwi has said.
In an interview monitored by AcademicWeek, he said tertiary graduates who are not from public teacher training institutions but get posted to teach in schools will get a one-month training to equip them with teaching skills.
In collaboration with the National Teaching Council (NTC) and other relevant Educational and Teaching stakeholders, Mr Assibey Antwi indicated certificates will be awarded to personnel who participate in the training
The Ghana National Service Scheme (NSS) Director further disclosed that his outfit this academic year is targeting to post over sixty to seventy per cent of the 2023/2024 batch of national service personnel to the private sector.
He explained that the demands over the years by the private sector have been personnel who offered Science and technology-related courses in the university, hence the Scheme’s decision to deploy more to that sector.
Asked if the service personnel allowance is likely to be increased, he said plans are far advanced for the next batch of national service (NSS) personnel allowance to be increased from the current GH¢559 to a considerable amount.
Mr Osei Assibey Antwi citing the current economic crisis in the country said the management of the Ghana National Service Scheme (NSS) is in talks with the central government to ensure the monthly allowance is increased.

“For the allowance increase, I am assuring them that plans are far ahead and as it was this current President who increase it to GH¢559, I am optimism that the same President is going to increase the number very soon,” he said.
