NIA staff declare indefinite strike over poor conditions of service
In a new development, PSWU, popularly known as Divisional Executive Council of the Public Service Workers’ Union of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana, National Identification Authority (NIA) staff Division, has declared an indefinite strike starting tomorrow, 10th June, 2024.
The Strike action by the National Identification Authority came after government’s failure to address poor working conditions experienced by the staff after after a sit-down negotiation.
In a statement released on Sunday, 9th June 2024, the union explained that it earlier decided to defer its strike action in March due to interventions and mediations by the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations.

However, the union has now declared a strike due to government’s lack of progress in the negotiation process.
According to the statement, the strike is based on several issues, including the government’s failure to address undue delays in the negotiation process and the lack of institution-specific allowances for National Identification Authority (NIA) staff.
The Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) has urged its members nationwide to adhere to the strike decision until further notice.

This action will result in the cessation of services at all NIA offices, including district, regional, and premium centers.
The strike is expected to impact the operations and services provided by these centers, affecting many citizens who rely on their services.
