New Head Coach and Assistant Confirmed for Asante Kotoko

Kumasi Asante Kotoko has confirmed new names for their head coach and assistant after the official dismissal of Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum yesterday.

Asante Kotoko Sporting Club officially parted ways with head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum yesterday, April 21st, 2025, due to the club’s poor performance in recent times. Immediately after the sacking of Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, there were rumors on X, formerly Twitter, that former player and head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Abdul Karim Zito would be returning to the club as an interim coach and also as a new technical director for the club. In a release published by Kotoko today, they confirmed Abdul Karim Zito will be assuming the role as an interim head coach and a technical director of the club until a new head coach is confirmed.

Abdul Karim, who has vast experience both in the country and also on the African terrain, will be leading his former club to winning the Ghana Premier League title. Also, fans will be looking forward to Abdul Karim Zito winning the FA Cup, as former coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum helped the team to the semifinals of the competition. Kumasi Asante Kotoko was drawn to play premier league side Brekum Chelsea in the semifinals, and fans will be willing to see new coach Karim Zito helping the team to the finals and even winning the competition.

Experience-wise, Abdul Karim Zito has got it all; he guided Premier League side Dreams FC to a historic CAF Confederation Cup semifinal. He also guided Ghana’s U20 team to the 2021 Africa U20 Cup of Nations title.

Also, Prince Yaw Owusu has been appointed as an assistant coach. Owusu who is also a seasoned football technician with over two decades of coaching experience across Ghana, Sudan, and the United States. Malik Jabir, who had previously served as a technical director, will now return to the club as the club’s technical advisor.

Fans of the Kumasi based club took over X formerly twitter to share their opinions in the changes made in the technical department of the team. “What advice paa is Malik Jabir giving? Just tell me.” Another said “So Kwesi Appiah has left the role or what..?”  Another added “Smh same old shit, just a different day……”
