NdC does not prioritize the health of Ghanaians -Abuakwa south Mp

The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming that the party does not prioritize the health and well-being of Ghanaians. His remarks come in response to a trending video that shows young people, both male and female, addicted to a new drug known as Wonim Red.

According to sources, this drug is intended for medical use, specifically for cancer patients experiencing severe pain. It is typically prescribed in small, controlled doses. However, many young people have been abusing it, taking far more than the recommended amount. As a result, the drug leaves them in a weak, intoxicated state, often making them appear frozen in one position for extended periods. Additionally, experts warn that prolonged abuse of Wonim Red can severely impact the respiratory system, making it an extremely dangerous substance.

According to the MP, the NDC had previously promised to provide free mental healthcare, yet this commitment has not been fulfilled. He accused the party of misleading the public, stating that despite their pledge, no significant steps have been taken to address the growing mental health crisis. He pointed to the 2024 budget, specifically page 142, which indicates that over 10 million cedis were allocated for free mental healthcare. However, he claims that no tangible efforts have been made to implement this initiative.

The MP further argued that under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), mental health services saw significant improvements, whereas the NDC has failed to take necessary actions to combat drug abuse and its consequences. He insisted that the NDC should be held accountable for the widespread misuse of Wonim Red,as they could have taken proactive measures to curb its rise but failed to do so.

With the increasing cases of drug abuse among the youth, he called for urgent intervention, emphasizing that prioritizing mental health is essential for safeguarding the future of young Ghanaians.
