National Security is on trail of the mastermind behind the Sapeiman fake gold bust- Jakpa
Richard Jakpa, the director managing Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat has opened up that an investigation on going effectively for the alleged headman behind an elegant simulated syndicate bust in Sapeiman, a exurb of Accra, in February.
When Journalist went on a dedicated tour of where the crime happened, Mr. Jakpa disclosed that the evidence they found from the site is untouchable and remains untouched to protect its rectitude whiles the investigation is on going. Ten 40-foot containers loaded with fake Ghana cedi and US dollar notes, was discovered after the bust.
Operatives believe that two of the containers were hurriedly moved out just before the busting started. It was shocking for security personnel to also discover many official Bank of Ghana (BoG) money boxes at the site where the busting took place.
Authorities have verified that those boxes are not fake ones but genuine Bank of Ghana property. This has raised confusion and questions how they possessed fake syndicate.
Another amazing discoveries was an adjacent uncompleted building, deceitfully ordinary diffident in appearance, which served as the primary front for the criminal operation.
At its entrance, an elderly man locally known as the “Battery Doctor” ran a vehicle battery-charging service, a calculated ruse designed to divert surmise.
During the search in the building, they discovered loads of fake notes in many and different currencies and denominations. The Investigators also discovered a collection of fake gold bars, of which many them are already peeling off to show the silver-coloured metal underneath.
“The operation was processed by a very well organised illicit group. He said that the headman suspected is identified only as”Alhaji”, remains at large“,Mr. Jakpa said.
Nevertheless, he guaranteed journalists that National Security operatives are effectively and seriously following his movements.
Mr. Jakpa said, they have valid evidence relating Alhaji to the crime and some illegal activities. He also said it’s just a matter of time and he will be arrested.
The revealing of the fake ring has kindled revived concerns about financial security and the trespass of national symbols by criminal elements. National Security has promised to bring all those included to justice and to strengthen observation systems.
