Napo’s brother defeated; Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah elected Manhyia South NPP PC
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, a professional private legal practitioner, has emerged a winner in today’s parliamentary primary elections held on Sunday, July 14 in Manhyia South Constituency.
Manhyia South constituency is currently governed by the NPP.
The private legal practitioner got 376 votes beating Nana Owusu Prempeh, a brother to the outgoing MP, NAPO, who garnered 141 votes by the end of the elections.

Akwasi Coker Gyambibi who also contested in the elections also garnered 2 votes, while another James Owusu secured 7 votes.
Following the selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, as the running mate to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP in the constituency organized a primary to elect a new candidate for the impending by-election.
This decision was necessitated by Dr. Prempeh’s new role, which requires his full attention and commitment.

The primary aimed to ensure that the party remains strong and well-represented in the constituency.
It also provided an opportunity for party members to select a capable and dedicated candidate to continue the work and vision of Dr. Prempeh.
Five persons from the NPP picked up nomination forms when application was opened but only four persons contested in the elections today.
Manhyia South is known to be a stronghold of the National Patriotic Party (NPP), and it is expected by Ghana’s Constitution that whoever won the primaries must eventually go through the main elections to become a Member of Parliament.
