Mother of traumatized 13-year-old allegedly gang-defiled in Madina cries out for assistance as justice efforts continue

The distressing story of Ama, a 13-year-old student in her third year at Madina No. 3 School, who was allegedly assaulted in a gang-rape involving over twenty men, has shocked the nation and sparked widespread concern.
As Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG) and the Justice Revived Foundation (JRF) continue their relentless efforts to seek justice for Ama, her mother, Stella Tetteh, has made an urgent plea for public assistance to alleviate her family’s dire circumstances.
Investigations by HRRG and JRF reveal that Ama’s ordeal began in February 2025, leaving her pregnant at three months and profoundly traumatized.
The primary suspect, 45-year-old mason Clement Kwame, along with several accomplices, is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting Ama often in group settings and without protection.
The case was formally reported to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Madina on July 13, 2025.
However, concerns have been raised over how the investigation has been conducted.
Reports indicate that Clement Kwame was briefly detained, paid an undisclosed sum, and then released without further prosecution.
Stella Tetteh, a 41-year-old unemployed mother of four, is struggling desperately to provide for her family under severe hardship.
Her husband, Eric Jonas Ntepreko, Ama’s stepfather, is currently detained on charges of child neglect, pending investigations, which has added to the family’s financial and emotional stress.
“We struggle to even get a meal a day,” Stella tearfully told HRRG and JRF. “I am pleading with Ghanaians to help us survive this nightmare and to support my children.”
Adding to her distress, Ama’s current whereabouts are unknown to her mother.
Sources suggest that Ama was placed in a shelter, reportedly through the intervention of Hon. Francis-Xavier Sosu, Member of Parliament for Madina, with police assistance yet Stella was not informed about her daughter’s location.
Attempts by Stella to contact the MP for updates have gone unanswered, heightening her fears and trauma.
HRRG and JRF have voiced serious concerns over this lack of transparency, questioning the circumstances that led to Ama’s placement in the shelter without her mother’s knowledge or consent.
On July 14, 2025, Hon. Sosu addressed the Speaker of Parliament to clarify what he described as misleading media reports concerning Ama’s case.
He stated that, according to police reports, Ama is 14 years old, pregnant, and that she had sexual encounters with 18 men, not all at once.
He assured the public that two suspects had been detained and that efforts are ongoing to apprehend others involved.
Hon. Sosu also pledged to provide legal assistance through his firm, F-X Law and Associates, and coordinated with the Medical Director of Pantang Hospital to ensure Ama receives urgent medical and psychological support.
He reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for tighter child-protection laws and supporting Ama’s family with medical care, counseling, and legal services.
However, HRRG and JRF have expressed their disappointment with Hon. Sosu’s public statement.
They feel it failed to recognize their crucial role in uncovering and exposing the crime.
Furthermore, they pointed out discrepancies regarding Ama’s age and the details of the assaults, which they believe rely solely on police reports without independent verification.
The organizations emphasize that their investigations, based on Ama’s testimony, confirm she is 13 years old and was gang-raped multiple times by over twenty men—often in group settings and led by Clement Kwame, with no protection for the victim.
They are calling for urgent action from authorities, including:
- Expedited and Transparent Investigations: Arrest and prosecute all involved officers and suspects, especially Clement Kwame.
- Holistic Support for Ama: Provide her with medical treatment, psychological counseling, and social support to help her heal emotionally and physically.
- Clarification of Ama’s Location and Family Involvement: Ensure her whereabouts are made known to her mother, and her family is included in decision-making regarding her care.
- Public Support for the Family: Reach out to Ghanaians to contribute resources—food, clothing, and financial assistance—to help Stella care for her children.
The organizations appeal to the public, NGOs, and philanthropists to come forward and aid Ama’s family.
Donations can be coordinated through HRRG and JRF to ensure they directly reach Stella and her children.
Ama’s story highlights the urgent need to end sexual and gender-based violence in Ghana. HRRG and JRF remain committed to fighting for justice for Ama and advocating for systemic change to protect other vulnerable children.
They call on Ghanaians to stand in solidarity with Ama’s family, condemn this heinous crime, and support their fight for justice and survival.
