Many Feared Dead In Suhum Accident
News coming in indicates that several passengers are feared dead in an accident that occurred in Suhum on Friday dawn.
It took personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) hours to rescue the trapped victims. Eyewitnesses are certain that several passengers lost their lives during a serious accident which took place at Obretima, Suhum Municipality of Eastern Region on September 20th 2024, in the early morning hours. This was tragic because one of the vehicles involved, a VIP bus traveling from Tamale to Accra, was curved and on a collision course with a shun diesel fuel tanker that was coming from Accra to Kumasi.
Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) makes it clear from the preliminary investigations they did that the accident happened when the tire of the tanker was burst leading to the loss of control of the driver. The tanker was then out of its lane hitting the speeding VIP bus that approached in the other directions. The middle part of the bus in particular bore the brunt and many passengers became stuck in the wreckage.

The victims were all rescued, and the chief rescue workers were GNFS personnel who spent hours relieving any persons trapped within wreckage and any members of the public who required any assistance. Assisted by the police and the ambulance services, they managed to extract and take those who had suffered extensive injuries to the Suhum government hospital to receive treatment.
The rescue efforts and coordination between the various emergency services highlight the importance of rapid response in such critical situations to save lives and provide urgent medical care to victims.
The Ghana Police Service and other security agencies are currently conducting its investigations to see the actual cause of this terrific accident.
