Mahama picks 2020 running mate from Ashanti Region…Check it out
Former President John Mahama has finally picked his running mate and has already introduced the running mate to the elders of the party, sources have confirmed to MyNewsGh.com.
I expect the said running mate who hails from the Ashanti Region to partner him going into the upcoming elections all things being equal.
There have been speculations about who the running mate of John Mahama will be with several names coming up but Mahama has settled on his choice, the source said.
Mr. Mahama himself put to rest all speculations yesterday when he said he has “a fair idea who my running mate is, we are not late in naming my running mate, what is the use of naming a running mate in the midst of COVID, we can’t outdoor him now as we are all fighting COVID, so in the appropriate time we will do that. But I can assure you he will be someone that will help to transform this nation when I become President come January 2021” Mahama said with certainty.
“A person who’ll be worthy of being the NDC’s running mate and who will make a significant contribution to the progress and prosperity of this country: I can assure you|” he added.
Ashanti NDC guru
Sources say the lucky number 2 to John Mahama hails from the Ashanti Region with deep roots in the royal family and has wide acceptance and networks which the NDC party is already benefiting from and stands to gain more with his elevation as running mate.
Party sources say John Mahama is certain about his choice and awaits the go-ahead of the party elders who are said to have “only minor reservations which have been addressed”.
According to the source, also quoting the clues from an NDC elder close to the action, the running mate is “well-connected internationally, very intelligent, networked Ashanti with royal and grassroot links, strategic thinking capacity, extremely resourceful to the party and highly well-spoken”.
According to the source, this could point to Mr. Kojo Bonsu, an astute organizer and royal Ashanti family member with a track record as a corporate boss of GOIL credited with its turnaround and was also a former Kumasi Mayor, ADIDAS brand boss, commodities trader and an astute grassroot politician; or it could be Kwame Awuah Darko, an often silent but active Ashanti NDC royal business tycoon and politician with Multimillion dollar interests in international Insurance, Energy and Real Estate and who served as CEO of BOST and TOR under John Mahama with good results or yet still, Alexander Kofi Mensah Mould, who has over 30 years of international energy and banking experience, a former CEO of NPA and GNPC under Mills, Mahama and regarded as one of Africa’s leading authorities on energy, economics and leadership issues.
Other clues point to Eric Opoku and Oppong Fosu. But these two are not indigenes of the Ashanti Regions and not likely to be the persons selected although they qualify.
