Mahama hates Free SHS; he’ll cancel it if elected – Nana B
The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, also known as ‘Nana B’, has expressed skepticism about the promise by the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, to maintain the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy introduced by the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.
According to Nana B, the past actions and statements of Mahama suggest that he will cancel the policy when he comes to power.
In an interview on Peace FM, Nana B expressed his concerns about the NDC’s stance on Free SHS, saying that “their behavior and actions show they are against Free SHS totally.”
“If you have observed them, anytime they have the opportunity, they have never highlighted the positives. Every day it is the negatives,” Nana B stated.

Furthermore, Nana B emphasized that NDC MPs are jittery about the Free SHS bill, which is yet to be presented to Parliament. He urged Ghanaians not to vote for Mahama in the 2024 general elections, citing his previous anti-Free SHS stance.
“When you listen to the NDC MPs, you will see they are very jittery. We plead with you, Ghanaians, to know that Mr. John Dramani Mahama will cancel the Free SHS if he comes back. He does not believe in it. His actions, utterances and behavior are proof of his hatred for the policy,” Nana B said.
Nana B concluded by emphasizing that Ghanaians should vote for a party that is committed to safeguarding the Free SHS legacy. He urged citizens to reject Mahama and his party’s anti-Free SHS agenda.
“When you have observed them, anytime they have the opportunity, they have never highlighted the positives. Every day it is the negatives. Ghanaians must know clearly the character of John Dramani Mahama; he’s been President before and he was against Free SHS. He never liked it. He said he won’t put his money into it,” Nana B warned.
“We want someone who will protect it; a party that is prepared to safeguard the Free SHS legacy,” Nana B added.
The Free SHS policy has been a flagship initiative of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration since its inception in 2017. The policy has provided free education to Senior High School students across the country, making it possible for many students from low-income families to access quality education.
It remains to be seen whether Mahama’s promise to maintain the policy is genuine or just another election gimmick. However, Nana Boakye’s comments have sparked debate about the NDC’s commitment to Free SHS and whether they will indeed cancel the policy if elected into office in 2024.
