Lucas Paqueta Betting Case: FA Announces Decision
The English Football Association, FA, Have Announced Their Decision On Lucas Paqueta Betting Case.
Lucas Paquetá, a West Ham United midfielder, has been exonerated of any violations of FA betting rules, two years after he was first probed.
Paquetá was accused with misconduct in four Premier League games between November 2022 and August 2023, alleging that he was purposefully carded by the referee in order to influence the betting market.
An FA statement confirming that the charges had not been proven read: “It was alleged that Lucas Paquetá directly sought to influence the progress, conduct, or any other aspect of, or occurrence in these matches by intentionally seeking a card from the referee for the improper purpose of affecting the betting market in order for one or more persons to profit from betting.”
“Lucas Paquetá denied the charges against him, and the Regulatory Commission found them to be not proven following a hearing.”
However, Paquetá was still found guilty of failing to cooperate with the investigation.
“The Regulatory Commission has found the misconduct charges against the player for alleged breaches of FA Rule F3 to be proven,” according to the statement.
“Lucas Paquetá was charged with two violations of FA Rule F3 for allegedly failing to comply with his duty to answer questions and offer information to the FA’s inquiry.
“Lucas Paquetá rejected the claims against him, but the Regulatory Commission found them substantiated after the hearing. The Regulatory Commission will decide on a suitable sanction for these infractions as soon as possible.”
Paquetá joined West Ham from Lyon in the summer of 2022, having struggled when he originally traveled to Europe to sign with AC Milan three years ago.
He impressed so well in his first Premier League season that a big money move to Manchester City appeared to be in the works when the FA initiated the inquiry into his conduct, which finally wrecked things.
