Leonard K. Marton Receives 2023 WAEC Distinction Award for excelling in WASSCE
WAEC has awarded former St. James Seminary Senior High School, Leonard Kofi Marton Amo-Kodieh a 2023 WAEC Distinction Award for his excellent performance in the 2023 West Africa Secondary School Exam.
Leonard Kofi Marton Amo-Kodieh emerged first in the 2023 West Africa Secondary School Exam (WASSCE) for school candidates both in Ghana and the best candidate out of the 2,327,342 candidates from five member countries of West African Examination Council, WAEC.
The former student of Labone Senior High School, Dzandu Selorm, also emerged as the first runner-up, while Daniel Asenso-Gyambibi also a former student of St. James Seminary took the second runner-up position.
In March this year, Leonard, Selorm and Daniel won the top three awards of the event as the best three (3) out of the 2,327,342 students from the five (5) member countries who sat for the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
All three won the WAEC International Excellence Awards as best candidates from the five (5) member nations who wrote the WASSCE 2023 and were also awarded at the 72nd Annual WAEC Council Meeting in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
the following students were named for the 2023 WAEC Distinction Awards Programme Award as winners:
1. General Arts – Laudina Adutwumwaa from St Monica’s Senior High School
2. Business – Kwasi Asare Adjei-Fordjour from St Augustine’s College, Cape Coast
3. Technical – Akosua Adjei Boateng from Juaso Senior High Technical School, Juaso- Ashanti
Due to how great they did in the WASSCE, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has congratulated them not for only their hard work but that of their teachers and non-teaching staff as well.
The 2023 edition of the WAEC Distinction Awards was held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the National Theatre.
Education Minister, Ntim Fordjour and the Director-General of GES, Dr Eric Nkansah, we’re both present for the award event.
About WAEC Distinction Awards
The Distinction Awards ceremony for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School is an initiative of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Endowment Fund (WEF).
Held annually, it rewards the top performers in the previous year’s WASSCE.
The WAEC Endowment Fund (WEF) provides funding for awards to candidates who achieve outstanding performance in the Council’s examinations at the Senior High School (SHS) level.

Eligibility for WAEC Distinction Awards
To be selected and qualified for the WAEC Distinction Award, Wassce candidates must score A1 in all subjects at one sitting. Also, you as a Wassce candidate should not be caught indulging in any examination malpractice.
What is the Selection procedure for WAEC Distinction Awards
The raw scores of eligible candidates are standardized into T-scores. These T-scores are then used to rank the candidates and determine the award winners.
