Legalize OKADA: If gov’t can’t create jobs, dont frustrate operators – Mahama
The decision of the NDC to legalize OKADA Business has gone down well with those who make a living out of it on a daily basis. In John Dramani’s latest message on the Okada business, he disclosed that if the government can not create jobs, laws should not frustrate OKADA operators.
The flag bearer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has justified the need for legalizing OKADA Business across the country as the 2020 December elections draw nearer.
Speaking to the Chief and Elders of Techiman Traditional Council in the Bono East region, he disclosed that Techiman could be said to be the headquarters for OKADA. The flag bearer assured the people that since the OKADA Business is creating jobs, it has become necessary to legalize its activities in the country.

He argued that the legalization of the Okada Business will help in the swift movement of goods, services, and passengers and also free the Okada drivers from the police as well.
He said “I know Techiman is the headquarters for OKADA. There are a lot of tricycles here but the laws of our country do not permit them to ride the OKADA that is why the police arrest them but that’s what they generate money from to feed their families. If the government cannot create jobs for the people and they have created jobs for themselves, we don’t have to use the laws to frustrate them. What we have to do is change the laws and regulate their activities so they can make some money for themselves”.
OKADA operators have bought into the idea since it was first made public by the National Democratic Congress.
He pledged to also ensure Assembly members’ allowances are paid to them so that they can effectively help in improving our local government system of governances.
