La Dadekotopon: Akufo-Addo’s driver files to contest NPP Parliamentary primary
President Akufo-Addo’s personal driver, Joseph Addo, officially threw his hat into the ring for the La Dedekotopon NPP Parliamentary primary elections happening on 27th of April, 2024.
The nomination was accepted and endorsed by the Greater Accra Elections Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), setting the stage for a potentially transformative campaign in the constituency.
Joseph Addo, who has served as the President’s driver for over two decades, brings a deeply personal connection to the race. “I am not new to this constituency; I have lived here my entire life, having been born and raised in la,” he remarked, reflecting his longstanding ties to the community.
His entry into the race follows the unexpected resignation of Dr. Gerald Joseph Tetteh, the previously elected parliamentary candidate for the NPP, citing personal reasons. This resignation prompted the National Executive Committee of the NPP to call for a fresh primary.
The race has further heated up with the nomination of Solomon Kotey Niikio, the local Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), adding another layer of competition.

Despite this, Joseph Addo remains confident in his unique relationship with the community, highlighting his contributions over the years. “I have assisted young people in this community in obtaining jobs and positions in government agencies,” Addo explained, emphasizing his efforts in securing a new office for the party following the destruction of their previous one.
With the primary set for April 27 and the general election on December 7, Addo is optimistic about his chances. His deep-rooted connection to the community and his proactive efforts in local governance position him as a strong contender.
In the 2020 elections, the NPP lost the La Dedekotopon seat to Rita Naa Odoley Sowah of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This year, with Joseph Addo on the ballot, the NPP hopes to reclaim this pivotal seat, promising a campaign focused on local development and direct engagement with the constituency’s needs.
