Key Discussion on Inclusive Energy Transition Set for Future of Energy Conference 2024
Accra, Ghana –Spaces for Change (S4C) is preparing to host a significant side event at the Future of Energy Conference (FEC 2024) focused on the critical issue of energy transition in West Africa.
The session, titled “Promoting Inclusive Energy Transition in West Africa: Ensuring Equity for Oil-Rich Communities,” will take place on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 1:30 PM at the prestigious Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
FEC 2024 serves as an essential platform to discuss the global movement towards net-zero emissions, with over 70 countries, including several from Africa, pledging to this vital commitment.
For West Africa, characterized by a diverse array of energy resources and pressing environmental issues, this transition is particularly important.
Countries in the region are actively crafting and implementing national energy transition strategies that seek to merge economic growth with ecological sustainability.
These initiatives often leverage natural gas and other transitional fuels as part of a broader effort to gradually adopt cleaner energy technologies, reflecting a commitment to reaching net-zero emissions.
The event organized by S4C, in partnership with the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), aims to ensure that the voices of marginalized communities, especially those in oil-rich regions, are integrated into the energy transition dialogue.
The program will feature a multi-stakeholder discussion, bringing together key actors from the energy sector, including policymakers, industry leaders, and community advocates.
Attendees can expect to engage in discussions centered on the progress achieved, the challenges faced by these communities, and the crucial need for inclusivity in achieving a sustainable and equitable energy transition.
The event not only aims to highlight existing inequalities but also to propose concrete solutions that account for diverse perspectives in the energy transformation landscape.
As West Africa navigates urgent climate challenges, this dialogue is timely and necessary.
Participants will have the opportunity to share insights, exchange best practices, and collaboratively explore pathways toward a more inclusive energy future.
