President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that the Executive and its cabinets are not involved in arresting Ghanaian protesters recently.
He stated that the arrests and successive proceedings happened because of breaching the rule of law and echoed that it shouldn’t be misconstrued as a move to prevent protest.
” People misbehave themselves and they are brought before court.
It is the duty of the court to make justice work. This has nothing to do with the Executive, “he stated in his interview with international media network, ‘ France24’.

Nana Addo emphasized strongly that the house of president together with cabinets are not the ones to be blamed for arresting and detaining individuals,
noting that the deeds of some of the protesters was what landed them into problem with the police and the courts.
” The various courts here in Ghana are independent and they have persistent throughout this period of the Fourth Republic,” he stressed.
Recently, The Ghana Police Service publicized the arrest of forty-two protesters from the Democracy Hub protest, which resorted to chaos as some members caused widespread damage.
The move happened as a result of multiple altercations between law enforcement and the protesters, who the police affirmed had assembled illegally.
The demonstrators proclaimed that they were protesting economic mismanagement and the uncontrolled illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) in the country
Among those arrested, 39 individuals charged with participating in unlawful activities at the 37 intersection in Accra have been taken into custody for two consecutive weeks.
Their charges are; conspiracy to commit a criminal offense, unlawful gathering, inflicting unlawful harm, and offensive behavior due to a breach of the peace. Bail was denied for these individuals during court’s proceedings.
President Akufo- Addo emphasised that Ghana’s laws do not prevent protests or the expression of views, asserting that he was not opposed to demonstrations.
” How can a President whose political career was aided by leading protests have problems with protests, he questioned.
” Nothing is done in Ghana to disallow people from voicing their thoughts on anything”, he said.
