How Ghana came to owe former professional boxer D.K poison $45,000 (Loan)

Trending footage of David Kotei (D.K poison), first Ghanaian professional boxer to win a world title in 1975 narrating how he loaned an amount of $45,000 in 1976 to Ghana to purchase canned mackerel to mitigate the harsh economic conditions but Ghana failed to pay back the Loan
“And like the patriot he was, D.K. Poison loaned to the military National Redemption Council (NRC) government $45,000 to import foods for the country.”
The story was brought to my attention recently. It is disgusting that after 40 years, his loan to the government has not been paid back to him. To be clear, he didn’t gift the government the money. The government gave him a house after his monumental victory becoming the first Ghanaian world boxing champion. However, his loan which allowed to struggling government to purchase sardines for the people was not a quid-pro-quo. It is high time that the government of Ghana repay him for his massive endeavor to save the country during one of its worse periods. Can you join me and share this story so the government acknowledges the debt owed to D.K. Poison.
