Gunshot In Sweden Results In Multiple Deaths, Here’s What To Know
On Tuesday, at 6:33 am ET, which was local time 11:33 am GMT, police received reports of a shooting incident that occurred in Örebro, a city 100 miles west of the capital, Stockholm. The shooting occurred at campus Risbergska, a school for adults who have not been able to complete earlier stages of education. These facilities are known as Komvux in Sweden, just as there is Aubildung in Germany. Komvuxes provide vocational training, Swedish language lessons, and other courses needed for adults to gain employment.
Videos taken from phones showed students taking shelter under desks while alarms wailed and red lights flashed.
“We heard bangs and loud screams. At first we didn’t understand what it was, but then we realized it could be gunfire,”
Andreas Sundling, a 28-year-old student at the campus, expressed. He said his classmates barricaded the doors and took cover for about an hour before police arrived and entered the classroom to evacuate them.
“There was blood all over the corridor,” Sundling said.
The police expressed that at least 10 people were killed and six were injured from the attack. The gunman who attacked was also found dead. From the update on Wednesday, regional authorities in Örebro said six people were being treated at the local university hospital. Three women and two men, all adults, were admitted for gunshot wounds and went through surgery. The authorities then said the five are now in a “stable but serious” condition. Another woman also underwent treatment for many minor injuries. No one else was admitted to the hospital overnight, authorities said.
By the time the attack began, many students had left the campus after taking a national examination on Tuesday, Lena Warenmark, a teacher, told a Swedish public broadcaster.
Mary Pegado, a 54-year-old teacher at the school, said she and her students had run to safety after someone burst into her classroom and told them to leave the class. “I think of my students,” Pegado said. “Many of them have fled from countries where things like this happen, and now they experience it here. It is horrible,” she said.
Grief and shock were upon the city as a steady stream of mourners came to pay their respects at a candlelight vigil Wednesday night by the road, next to a small housing estate and opposite the school where the event happened.

Police said that the perpetrator was not connected to any gangs and that he was not believed to be acting based on ideological motives.
“At the moment, the police believed that the perpetrator was acting alone, but we cannot rule out more perpetrators connected to the incident,” the police said.
The police said the attacker also shot at the officers after they arrived and they found out he was dead when they approached which appears that he shot himself. As of now, the attacker has not been identified yet.
