The Savannah regional office of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) organized a health walk on Saturday, February 17, as part of the National Chocolate Week celebration at the Larabanga Mosque near Damongo in the Western Gonja District in the Northern Region.
The nineteenth National Chocolate Week celebration was under the theme: “Eat Chocolate, Stay Healthy, Grow Ghana,” and the sub theme was ” Explore Ghana, Eat Chocolate “.
The event was to reshape the celebration of Valentine’s Day in Ghana by leveraging chocolate as a symbol of love to promote the local consumption of Ghanaian chocolate.
It was also aimed at promoting domestic tourism, enhancing social cohesion and networking, and creating jobs, especially among the youth.
Mr. Ken Ateere, the Marketing Officer at Savannah Regional of GTA, who gave a speech on behalf of Mr. Kwasi Frimpong, the Savannah Regional Director, said research indicated that it’s healthy to eat chocolate daily to lower their blood pressure.
According to him, chocolate prevents liver damage, keeps the heart healthy, and also boosts the brain to function well.
He encouraged tourists and Ghanaians to eat cocoa related products, including Choco pebbles, for their health benefits to the body and mind.
Cocoa related products were distributed to students and community members as part of the celebration.
