Ghana orders four Airbus helicopters to strengthen defence and emergency response

A step has been taken by Ghana to strengthen its national emergency response and security infrastructure with the purchase of four advanced helicopters from Airbus Helicopters, after a contract that was awarded by the Ministry of Defense.
This kind of contract covers a two H175M multi-mission helicopters and a two Airbus Corporate Helicopters platforms, one ACH175 and one ACH160, in a step that puts Ghana in a better position that can improve capacity for search and rescue, medical emergency services and disaster management operations.
The government will also pay for the entire purchase of the multipurpose helicopters over four years, starting with a first instalment of €62.5 million. This will be followed by remaining payments in May 2026, March 2027 and December 2028.
As per an Airbus Helicopters press release, the H175M aircraft will be deployed for transport, search and rescue, medical emergency services and disaster management operations. This will also provide the country with greater flexibility in dealing with emergencies involving civilians and security-related activities.
During the time the agreement was being announced, Arnaud Montalvo, who is the Head of Africa and Middle East Region for Airbus Helicopters, said the contract is a renewed partnership between Ghana and the manufacturer. Mr. Arnaud Montalvo highlighted that “The commitment from Ghana marks the return of Airbus Helicopters to the country with a defined focus on customer support and partnership,” he said.
He drew to attention that the selection of the H175M platform shows Ghana’s operational requirements in the defense sector and humanitarian missions. Again the inclusion of corporate helicopters also shows how the government is focused on dependable and modern transport for official work.
Mr. Arnaud Montalvo “We are particularly excited that the H175M will be operated in Ghana, demonstrating the aircraft’s versatility across defense and security missions. This key deal also makes Ghana a leading customer in West Africa for our premium corporate helicopters, the ACH160 and ACH175.”
