Form 1 Female SHS student allegedly commits suicide – Here’s WHY

In a devastating turn of events last night, a female student from Maladah SHS in Kunkujang Jatta-ya, Gambia, tragically committed suicide due to the stress of an unwanted pregnancy.
Mamy Jassey, the student, ingested a toxic substance on Sunday, April 28, 2024, around 6 p.m., and was declared dead shortly after her emergency admission to a local clinic near Lamin Lodge.

As Mamy’s family began burial preparations, a lab technician residing in the same neighborhood noticed something astonishing. Upon checking her pulse, he found faint signs of life in Mamy.
This unexpected discovery prompted him and several neighbors to rush her to the Banjulunding Health Center, hoping for a miracle.
Tragically, despite the frantic efforts of both her neighbors and health center staff, Mamy was pronounced dead again on arrival.
The repeated declaration of death necessitated a postmortem examination to clarify the exact cause of her demise.

This sorrowful incident sheds light on the harsh realities faced by young girls in the region, emphasizing the urgent need for better educational and support systems regarding reproductive health.
