Fire destroys Christ Embassy Church Headquarters in Lagos
A massive fire has ravaged the headquarters of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s Christ Embassy Church in Lagos, Nigeria, leaving millions of naira worth of property destroyed.
The fire, which broke out early in the day, around 8 am, sent panic waves throughout the city as residents and passersby rushed to the scene to witness the chaos. The incident has been captured on camera and shared widely on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), with many expressing shock and disbelief at the extent of the damage.
Eyewitnesses report that the fire began suddenly, with thick plumes of smoke billowing into the air and flames engulfing parts of the building.
Worshippers who had gathered for the usual Sunday service ran for safety.
Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed the incident and urged worshippers and concerned residents to remain calm, as the fire had been doused by 10 am.
Adeseye stated, “This is to inform Lagosians to be calm. The fire at Christ Embassy Church headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja, is under control right now.”

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service responded quickly to the emergency, arriving at the scene with fire trucks and personnel to battle the blaze.
According to reports, the cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, but authorities have launched an investigation to determine its origin. Thankfully, there have been no reports of casualties or injuries as a result of the incident.
The police have cordoned off the area to ensure public safety and prevent any looting or unauthorized access to the damaged premises. The church’s management and officials are also on the ground, assessing the damage and working with emergency responders to contain the situation.
The Christ Embassy Church is one of Nigeria’s most prominent religious institutions, with a global following and numerous branches across Africa and beyond. The loss of property is estimated to be in millions of naira, making this a significant financial blow to the organization.
