Bitter TRUTH why 93% of law students failed exams “Portooor” is one we can not run away from and the candidates who sat for the exams know it.

Newsghana24 gathered that a huge rate of failure was recorded in the just ended law school entrance exams. However, the bitter truth was clearly written on the wall.

According to the outcome, just 7% representing 128 students who sat for the exams managed to gain the pass mark.

128 out of 1820 pass law school entrance exams is not new

Many professional exams are not failed by candidates, they miss the cut-off point and that is truth number one. Accounting and law bodies regulate how many new persons qualify to join the elite charted accountants and lawyers each year.  

The question is, who must be blamed for the abysmal performance of students who intend to practice law or want to be admitted into the law school? Is it possible that tutors are not delivering the needed materials and content to prepare their candidates for the exams and profession or candidates are not pulling their weight enough?

For 93% to fail is a big problem that needs to be investigated. However, professional bodies like ICA Ghana and the Law profession have systems in place to regulate the rate at which aspiring accountants and lawyers are brought on to practice. 

This was confirmed by a statement alleged to have been made by the chief justice who said if there is mass production of lawyers, it will reduce the quality. This could further reduce the standard of the law practicing profession. 

She supported her position on the matter saying “Just like you can’t mass produce doctors and surgeons, Ghanaians must not have mass produced lawyers imposed on them”.

She also went on to say  “So long as I have anything to do with it, it won’t happen.”

Addressing the Bench, Bar and Faculty Conference at the Labadi Beach Hotel on the theme “The Changing Landscape in the Law – the Judge, the Lawyer and the Academic”, the Chief Justice said any attempt to allow the production of lawyers without efficient control, checks and balances will be rejected irrespective of who is advocating for it.

The exams results which were pasted by the school on the notice board at the law school was a shocker to many who had their hopes dashed.

Many students could not believe what they were seeing. How could 1692 students fail an exam and only 128 passed? 

In 2018, the same thing happened a many students were failed and hopes were dashed after a long endless journey enter the law school was foiled with just one exam. 

It is clear that for the next few or more year’s less than 10% of candidates who sit for the exams will pass. If you hear that, 128 out of 1820 pass law school entrance exams, do not be surprised.
