EC clears 13 candidates for Presidential election, 11 disqualified
The Electoral Commission (EC) has cleared 13 out of 24 candidates contesting for 2024 presidential election after conducting a thorough review of the nomination forms submitted recently.
These are nine people contesting on the ticket of various political parties and four independent candidates in the race.
In a statement issued on September 20, 2024, Deputy Chairman for Operations, Samuel Tettey, disclosed “ Following the successful conduct of the filing of nominations from the 9th of September to the 13th of September, 2024, the commission instituted a thorough examination of the Nomination Forms submitted by the candidates to ensure conformity with requirements as set out in law.”
“The Electoral Commission wishes to inform the General Public that the following persons have successfully gone through the Nomination process and qualify to contest as Candidates in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Mr. Tettey stated in the release.

The full list of candidates and their respective parties is as follows:
- Mahamudu Bawumia – New Patriotic Party
- John Dramani Mahama – National Democratic Congress
- Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen – Independent Candidate
- Christian Kwabena Andrews – Ghana Union Movement
- Daniel Augustus Lartey Jnr – Great Consolidated Popular Party
- George Twum-Barima-Adu – Independent Candidate
- Nana Kwame Bediako – Independent Candidate
- Akua Donkor – Ghana Freedom Party
- Hassan Abdulai Ayariga – All People’s Congress
- Kofi Akpaloo – Liberal Party of Ghana
- Mohammed Frimpong – National Democratic Party
- Nana Akosua Frimpomaa – Convention People’s Party
- Kofi Koranteng – Independent Candidate
Consequently, 11 aspirants who have been disqualified from the presidential race due to improprieties in their nomination forms are;
1.Janet Asana Nabla, an independent aspirant,
2.Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC);
3.Kofi Asamoah Siaw of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP),
4.Samuel Apea-Danquah;
5.Desmond Abrefah;
6.Nana Stephens Adjepong;
7.Paul Perkoh;
8. James Kwesi Oppong;
9.John Enyonam Kwakwu Kpikpi
10.Dr Samuel Sampong Ankrah
11.Nii Amu Darko.
