COCJASAAR appeals to motorist, road users to obey road traffic regulations for accident free yuletide season

The Coalition of Concerned Journalists and Social Activists Against Road Crashes (COCJASAARC) has charged motorists, motorbike riders and other road users to strictly obey road traffic regulations in discharge of their duties before, during and after this yuletide season to ensure carnages are reduced to the barest minimum on our roads.
The group in a statement signed by its Co-convener, Joseph Wemakor and copied to the media bemoaned the rampant road accidents claiming numerous lives in recent times and cautioned motorists, motorbike riders and other road users against speeding, wrongful overtaking, drink driving, receiving or making phone calls including other misconducts which put lives at risk.
“Finally to both drivers, motor riders and passengers, please desist from receiving or making phone calls while driving or using the roads, as it is rampantly becoming a contributory factor for road accidents knowing that 90% of road accidents are as a result of human error. That call can wait to save lives”.
The Coalition equally entreated the Police Motor Traffic Transport Directorate (MTTD) to strictly enforce the road traffic laws and regulations and punish offenders accordingly to serve as a deterrent to others.
The statement also encourages pedestrians to be wary, watch out for traffic signals while crossing the roads to remain safe always towards observance of accident free yuletide season.
COCJASAARC is a network of over 60 media and civil society organizations made up of journalists and social activists who are committed to ensuring safety on our roads to safeguard lives.
