Cheddar Declares Intention to Run as Independent Candidate for 2024 Presidential Election
Ghana’s popular social media influencer and leader of the New Force Movement, Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar or Freedom Jacob Caesar, has announced that he will be contesting the upcoming December 7 presidential election as an independent candidate.
This decision comes after his efforts to register the New Force Movement as a political party were met with delays and obstacles from the Electoral Commission (EC).
Cheddar made the announcement at a press conference in Accra on Friday, July 12, 2024, citing the lack of progress in acquiring the necessary approval from the EC to form a political party as the reason for his decision.
According to him, the EC had initially given the movement a provisional license, but the gazetting process, which involves a three-month vetting period, was proving to be too lengthy.
“We believe that if we have to wait for three months and we are guaranteed to still get this license, we would not have two months to even campaign or market for this party,” Cheddar explained.

“After eight months of putting this registration through, we received a provisional license which makes it very difficult for us to risk another three months of getting an actual license before we can proceed as a party, making it impossible for the New Force.”
Cheddar’s decision to run as an independent candidate is seen as a bold move, given the challenges that independent candidates often face in Ghanaian politics.
However, he remains undeterred, drawing inspiration from Ghana’s history of independence struggles. “But the one thing that freed Ghana from the imperialists is independence. That is how we started.
So, the one thing that I believe will relieve Ghana from our political principles which are undermining the nation’s development is independence.”
The New Force Movement was founded on September 12, 2023, and submitted all necessary forms and requirements needed for a citizen to form a party.
Despite the setbacks, Cheddar remains committed to his vision and assured Ghanaians that he will continue to pursue the movement’s goal of becoming a registered political party after the December 7 election.
Cheddar’s decision is seen as a wake-up call for Ghanaian politicians and citizens alike, highlighting the need for greater transparency and accountability in the political process.
