British student killed in Texas days before graduation
A British nursing student in the US study was found dead with stab injuries in an apartment in Houston, Texas. This happened just days before she was about to graduate, as the police and her family say.
The Houston police said Elizabeth Tamilore Odunsi, 23, was found on the 26th of April by officers who had gone to her flat to check on her.
Police said multiple stab wounds were on her body. A man was also found in another room with at least one stab wound, and he was taken to hospital immediately in a critical condition.
Ms Elizabeth Tamilore Odunsi had a TikTok account, “Tamidollars”, where she posted to her 30,000 followers about her experiences as a Briton living in the US. As per her last post from 21 April, she described that she was prepared to graduate in two weeks and had already booked a holiday.
An online fundraiser to bring her home to the UK for burial has brought together more than £44,000 ($58,000). Georgina Odunsi, her sister, wrote on GoFundMe that “Tami was a beautiful soul, full of light, ambition, and kindness. She moved from the UK to the United States to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse, dedicating herself to a life of care and service.”
Her sister wrote that “Tragically, Tami was killed in a brutal attack just days before she was about to graduate from university. Such a heartbreaking tragedy – a moment that should have been the beginning of a bright and promising future.”
As per the Houston Police Department statement, on Saturday at 15:50 local time, officers were called to the student housing complex. Officers knocked on the door, but no response came. They saw blood on a rear concrete patio and entered the apartment.
The detective wrote that “The female victim was found on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds. A male was also found in a bedroom with at least one stab wound.” Ms Elizabeth Tamilore Odunsi was declared dead at the moment. Texas Woman’s University, where she was studying, did not immediately answer a request for comment from BBC News.
As per her post last year, Ms Elizabeth Tamilore Odunsi explained how she chose living in the US over the UK, telling her TikTok followers that “the vibes are just so much better here”.
Her recent post revealed that she shared a video of the cap and gown she was going to wear to graduation with the caption “3 more weeks”.
In her previous post, she shared a video of herself learning with the caption: “She doesn’t know it yet, but a year from now all her hard work will pay off; she’ll be working as a nurse in her dream speciality.”
Ms Elizabeth Tamilore Odunsi added that she looked forward to having a “stronger relationship with Christ, living a quiet and peaceful life”.
