Arrest and Punish Headmaster and Bursar of Peki SHS – CSOs
The CSOs in Ghana have called for the Headmaster and Bursar of Peki SHS to be punished . This was contained in a press release. The CSOs, SDGs & SDG4 have urged the appropriate department to Arrest and severely punish the Headmaster and Bursar of Peki SHS for allegedly sabotaging the free SHS policy to deter others.
The CSOs Platform on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Sub-Platform 4 (SDG4) which advocates for quality education for all condemns in no uncertain terms the alleged diversion of food items meant for students of the Peki SHS under the government flagship policy of free SHS by the head and bursar of the school.
The said items intercepted by a special task force led by the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Rev. Johnson Avuletey included branded exercise books, oil, maize, milk, ‘Tom Brown’ and tomato paste which could feed about 200 students of Peki Senior High School in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region for about a week was alleged to have been diverted to appease an external auditor in Ho, the Volta Regional Capital.
We consider the action of the head and bursar of PESCO as unfortunate, unprofessional and an attempt to deny some Ghanaian students their right to free quality education in total contravention of the free SHS policy initiated by the current government.
The coalition is deeply worried by the revelation also made by the deputy Volta Regional Minister that some school authorities are hell-bent in sabotaging the system to compromise education in the Volta region and beyond.
As a coalition who is ambitiously committed to the achievement of the SDG4 in Ghana, we would not relent on our efforts to fight corruption in the educational sector to ensure that no child is left behind in education as a result of corrupt practices by officials in the sector as in the case of PESCO.
We are by this release calling on the Volta Regional Police Command to as a matter of urgency arrest the perpetrators of this heinous crime against quality education in the Volta Region and ensure all culprits are punished according to the laws of the nation to deter others, not only in the Volta Region but across the entire country not to engage in such misconducts.
