Arise Ghana to Picket U.S. Embassy Over Ken Ofori-Atta Extradition

Pressure group Arise Ghana has announced plans to picket the United States Embassy in Accra on Tuesday, January 20, 2025, at 8:00 a.m., demanding the arrest and extradition of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to Ghana to face justice over alleged financial impropriety.
The action, to be held under the hashtag #BringBackKenOfori-Atta, follows what the group describes as the lack of response to calls it earlier made at a press conference held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, in Accra.
At the briefing, which was held at the Accra International Press Centre, the group disclosed that while Ghana has recorded some level of economic stabilization under the current administration, accountability for past financial mismanagement remains essential to sustaining those gains.
Arise Ghana argued that governance cannot be measured by economic indicators alone but by the willingness of the state to hold former public officials accountable, regardless of their status.
The group specifically called on the Attorney-General, the Office of the Special Prosecutor, and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to ensure that all persons implicated in past financial scandals are prosecuted, singling out Ken Ofori-Atta as a key figure who must not be allowed to evade justice.
According to the group, the decision to picket the American Embassy is intended to draw international attention to the matter and to urge cooperation should extradition processes be initiated.
The group has urged supporters, civil society actors, and concerned citizens to join the demonstration, describing it as a peaceful civic action aimed at reinforcing democratic accountability.
Arise Ghana says the planned demonstration forms part of its broader civic campaign to promote accountability, transparency, and the rule of law in Ghana.
